Our planet could be under strain, but optimism persists. A fresh honor originating at the interdisciplinary festival Starmus will encourage individuals to take action.

The medal will honor to pay tribute to the esteemed British primatologist who died recently. It is designed to celebrate those who protect life on Earth.

Honoring a Legacy

The first recipients will be revealed at the upcoming Starmus event in the Canary Islands, scheduled from October 17th to 22nd the coming year.

It was shared that Goodall, who was a member of the festival's board, had endorsed the award’s creation. “The vision behind this award, and the festival being tasked to oversee it, originated with Jane,” a statement said. “She expressed that she wanted this to happen. This is likely because of the close bond she shared with the festival.”

“This medal will acknowledge sustainable programmes carried out to build an environment improved for people, animals and the environment and provide encouragement to carry on such efforts,” said a family member.

Structure and Vision

A co-founder of Starmus stated that the medal – which was announced at a prestigious venue – would probably include several divisions.

“The intent is for it to be very much similar to the Stephen Hawking award honoring scientific outreach established a decade past,” he explained. Jane Goodall was a recipient of that very medal.

Sharing thoughts about the future for Earth, one figure said, “To be truthful, it's challenging to be optimistic. The current political climate in one major nation is conducting an assault on knowledge. So this significantly hampers the world’s efforts.”

“Realistically, things don’t look particularly bright so we have to really start reconsidering, with greater urgency regarding the impact of our actions. And that’s not only climate change, that’s the whole way that we treat nature.”

Following an Example

Consequently, observers believe this is a good time to follow Goodall’s example. “It is believed that when we’re awarding this medal, the focus will be on this essential spirit that Jane embodied – which made her priority, to transform the way we treat wildlife around us.”

Another key issue currently was highlighted of misinformation. The central topic of next year’s festival is set as “the pursuit of factual understanding”.

“It has become apparent that factual reality is becoming contested when politics are involved. This is an alarming trend,” he commented. “The climate science remains a scientific discipline; it is impossible to have any influence by political agendas in this field.”

Hope and Determination

The goal remains that this honor can motivate action. “It focuses on motivating others to participate and to care and to work toward these goals, truly. Whether or not we feel hopeful, we must look at doing all that is possible,” it was added. “Be prepared for failure, but you still continue striving toward success.”

A descendant engaged in conservation work expressed confidence that “given direction and when empowered, people are capable of being responsible caretakers of our planet”, pointing to the programs of an institute that, among its other activities, empowers the next generation get involved locally, wildlife, and environment.

“As Jane Goodall constantly told everyone, our daily actions are significant and it is up to us the kind of difference we choose to create,” he said. “There is still time and this medal will offer support and increase understanding about the positive actions currently in progress.”
