Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
