Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a location near the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the building supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," a police statement confirmed.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.
Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to determine their whereabouts," stated a police chief.
A Nation in Mourning
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the community to not sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his media career, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including private security, offering high-level security services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in building administration and assisted with property reclaimations.

His death has sent the nation reeling and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the government and political parties.
A cabinet official remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A party figurehead said the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

In a communication, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will live on".
