The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they achieve the expected passage for a tournament staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Protest

The championship was inaugurated at an ceremony in a London landmark on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they approached the venue by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were held up with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.

Venues and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a championship for the followers and a festival of everything we value about the football – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million passes, a record for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be released to attendees.
