Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
