The former Liverpool manager admits a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Impossible.”
