The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
