The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
