The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
