The United Kingdom Ready to Utilize Seized Russia's Holdings to Fund Ukraine's Military Campaign

The UK is ready to advance with using the total value of immobilized Russia's holdings to support the Ukrainian defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel Russia to participate in talks.

They added that the move would be executed in tight collaboration with the America.

United Kingdom restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russian funds since Moscow began its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, until now, money provided to Ukraine using Russia's holdings had exclusively been drawn from profits and interest accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were united in their goal to push forward toward employing the total worth of the seized Russia's state holdings to halt hostilities.

He noted that further restrictions soon would apply more pressure on Moscow.

This declaration comes after European Union officials convened in Copenhagen previously to discuss using immobilized Russian funds for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, President Donald Trump called on international partners to seize or utilize frozen Russian assets, according to news outlets.

The worth of immobilized Russian holdings in the EU is assessed to be almost €211bn.

Russia launched widespread aerial attacks across Ukraine on recently, causing power cuts in many areas of Kyiv, Kyiv, and several other zones.

Two people were killed and a minimum of 20 people were hurt in the attack, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a post on an online platform after the incident, Zelensky commented that the strategic strike aimed at public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the America, EU, and the seven nations - in providing defense mechanisms and enforcing penalties," he stated.

"Each restrictive measure diminishes Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky informed reporters he would urge Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which alliance members acquire weapons from the United States to donate to Ukraine.

While commending the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for Kyiv, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would participate in the program, as well as apply further sanctions on Moscow.
